Gunnar T. Andersen recruited as the new Director General of the Financial Supervisory Authority (FME)

Gunnar T. Andersen has been recruited as the Director General of the FME. Mr. Andersen has been employed by the Icelandic Social Insurance Administration since 2006, first as the Head of Fraud Prevention and Control and then as Deputy Director General, Resource Development and Analysis. Concurrent with his position at the Social Insurance Administration, he has, since 2007, served as Director General of the European Healthcare Fraud and Corruption Network in Brussels, Belgium.

Mr. Andersen worked for Landsbanki Íslands (The National Bank of Iceland) from 1991 to 2003, where his last position was Managing Director, Head of International Banking and Treasury. Mr. Andersen also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of several of Landsbanki‘s subsidiaries. His previous work experience includes executive positions at Helly-Hansen A/S in Norway and Pepsi-Cola in the United States, as well as having been an investment officer at the United Nations Treasury, responsible for the U.N. Joint Staff Pension Fund‘s Bond Investments, at U.N. headquarters in New York.

Gunnar holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota and a degree in Business Administration from the University of Iceland.
